My interview date was on 1st July.BARC Anushaktinagar.

              My interview started around 5 p.m and ended around 6p.m.The committee members were really well behaved and cooperating.initially theydiscussed some non-technical feel good type questions like "r u 1st time in Mumbai,whenwas ur train,was it irritating fr u to wait fr such a long time before the interview" andsomething like this.

           

            After that the Chairman said "what is the subject we should discuss with u?"(That was

the entry 2 the technical round)..

       I answered ,

its Control System in which I'm comfortableenough...another senior member of the board asked me 2 mension 2 or 3subjects...preferably 3..........I said

Ckt Theory.

Question asked;

Ckt Theory:-

1) They drawn a signal having several status like a step initially,then a +ve ramp,thenanother step,then a -ve ramp,then another step....and said me 2 evalute the time domainexpression for that particular signal...( I answered at my level best but it wasn't muchsatisfatory)

2) If triangular wave is applied 2 a transformer how would the o/p look?(My answer wasnot bad according 2 my perspective).And many more Q's were asked about inductive ckts & DC response in reactive ckts.Machines:-1) In a DC m/c if field flux varied keeping V const,what will be the Flux vs speed curve?(I answered properly but I was little Slow in that particular answer).2) In a DC m/c if field V varied keeping flux const,what will the V vs speed curve.(Ianswered properly)

.3) After above 2 Q's they asked "frm the graphs which procedure is preferable fr thespeed regulation in practice"(I failed 2 answer)

4) Why DC motor drags high current initially?Explain mathematically.(My answer wasto the point,short and very satisfactory.It was the best reply I done in the whole interviewsession).

5) Draw Torque/slip ch of I.M? If a load curve having a higher starting torquerequirement then how the motor can be started ?(I answered almost properly)

6)They drawn several load curve on a specified motor curve and asked in which case themotor will accelerate more?(Initially I was confused ,but the moment they made thequestion clear to me, I answered correctly).Control Systems:-1) they drawn a RC filter and told me to evaluate the stability through frequency domainanalysis (I faced some hurdle with Bode plot but I did it easily with polar plot).That was the only long Question they asked about Control system(which was my 1stoption)...They asked othe C.S Q's which I forgot.And then they asked some easy Q's frm Power systems which was not my preferreddomain....

.I answered them with my utmost effort.

my advice is jz dnt go thru bits b perfrct with the conceps n u r even

 asked to deriv n pruvthe relations so it is bst to b prepared with the 

derivation n concept of the subj....n e hw the panel willl b very fndly 

n suprtiv nnn they r ther to c wat do u knw rater thanto fnd wat u 

doonnnoso go with a ositi v atttitude nnnn the main thing is that even if

 u frgt u r gvn hints if catchup with that den the points r in ur pokt...........

the very imp thuing dey luk 4 in the candidate r willingness to solve the

 gvn prob n zeal 2knw new things nn it will ftch u gud pointsss.......n reg

 my intw it lasted 4 2 hours bt i enjoyed it...it was the bst intw i ever had.

.....after dat i wa askd to wait outside after 5 min they gav a bell n the 

respectv person wentinn n came out with medical slip n said congratulation 

u r innn........ther after we wer takn 4 maedical testsson tht day around 35-40 members wer tther n onli 2 gals including me... wer slctedso guyss..... al wat

 it needs is basics... basics....basiccs ....n basicssn little mixture of 

confidence ur intereset n all stuffff................................

Asked to tell 4 fav subjects

1)Electric Machines

2)Power Systems

3)Networks

4)Control Systems

 

Q)Asked to draw a integration waveform for a D.CTRAP: Integration can be possible for closed areas. Then he converted to squarewaveform

Q)Why starting current of Induction Machine is High?

Q)Why starter is required for I.M and name the types of starting Methods?

Q) Asked some questions about auto transformer starter and DOL starter?

Q)Asked to draw Torque-Speed Characteristics and plot graphs

1) What happen to torque if voltage is halved?

2)What will be load torque to start the motor comfortably? Asked to show on graph?

3) Some basic questions in Torque – speed characteristics?

Q) Gave a circuit An Ideal Current Source series to resister and capacitor asked to findvoltage

Q) Asked what is Thyristor diff between Transister and thyrister what is diode and whatis power amplifier draw characteristics of transistor …transistor swich asked to show on graph

Q) Characterisics of thyrister and turn off time value Mosfets…and some simplequestions?

Q)Asked to draw a PID controller and asked to find the transfer function and find itsstability?

Q) Asked to draw single line dia of a power system draw a long transmission lineCharging currents… if the sub conducters are used what will happen R,L,C

Q)why voltage cannot be stepped up to very high values 1000MW and above

Q)Why generating volatage is 13kv?

Q)And some basic questions related to fundamentals

                         My interview went for more than an hour. I was just sent ( did not asked me to wait) and later they told I got medical after 5 minutes.

               TIPS: Prepare all the charact and curves thoroughly concentrate on only 4 sub but deepknowledge is required…. Be strong in fundamentals they test your fundamentals. ReadStandard textbooks .. ( I have seen many reading B.L.Teraja at interview) iam not findingfault with the book but if you want to learn good concepts read standard textbooks… andimportant thing is They don’t Bother what you know you should explain it correctly.Good communication is very much required. I think this will help to the others who areaiming at DAE.Thankyou

         iam ashok kumar(branch EEE) from hyderabad,

i made it,i got medical slipiam from NIT Warangal n have

 3 years of work experiencei want to share my interview

 experience

        iam the first person after lunch at 2:00 pm 

(No. 4 interview panel) on 30th june 09they asked me 

about my work experience for 5 min.and asked some 

questions on batteries(work experience related)then 

they asked me to design a circuit for battery charger

(1-phase i/p and -48 dc output)then they asked about

 my fav. subjects,i choosen

1.elec. machines

2.circuit theory

3.power electronics.

they started with t/f 

1.asked about working principle of t/f( i clearly explained including with lenz law)

2.then they asked if some part of core is removed what happens,

3.what is leakage flux,and showed some 3 phase t/f circuits and asked in 

whichcombination leakage flux will be more and induced emf

4.about BH curve for core of t/f and for air.

5.they asked me for different combinations of turns(and also frequencies) on

 primary andsecondary what is the output voltage

.

6.one of them given 2 ind. machines with different slips and asked

 about i/pcurrent,power factor,and power output for the 2 machines

7.what happens if a alternator with 52 hz frequency is connected to

 infinite busbar

.

8.what happens if mech i/p is removed to a alternator which is on 

infinite busbar.

9.asked 4,5 questions on rlc transients circuits(i answered all the 5 questions) 

like howthe inductor discharges(direction)

10.FET characteristics

11. asked 2,3 questions about harmonics in t/f and some misc. questions

 which i have not remembered, i think i have answered 80%correctlyfinally they asked

 me about my native place,and said wait outside for 2 min 

they called the assistants outside the room to handover my medical slip

Power Systems:- 1. Equal area criterion for Single line,double line and fault occurred on line explain withcurves.

2.Swing equation.

3.Governor characteristics.

4.How u will increase pf by capacitor..improve it frm 0.5 to 0.89 ..calculate capacitor needed

.Power Electronics& Drives:-

 1. Operation of 1-ph inverter.

2. Draw o\p vtg and current waveforms.

3. Wht is the use of feedback diodes?

4. wht is megger.

Control systems:-

 1.Draw response vs time characteristics.

2. Show td,ts, tr. tolerances band ,overshoot etc on curve.

3. wht modification we do to make systems gain high?dats all frndz and i got medical slip...

Medical Test:-

1.    Medical test took place in Bhabha hospital. They brought us(13 ppl) to hospital by buson 8am

2.    . They took Urine sample first then blood

3.    .In radiology section they took X-ray of chest.

 

4.In Physical test(Be careull5.All medical test were done abt 4 pm so it took very long time.

6. Then we were told to leave .

7. If somebody's medical test is doubtful he has to stay for further chekup or if herequired checkup on diet he\she has to come in next morning

       The interview committee puts the ball into ur court by asking from you , your favoritesubjects. Most of the times they ask questions from that only...ur familarity of thesubjects wont help u. U need to have thorough and in depth understanding of the subjectswhich u wud like to speak in front of the comittee...

         Thank to u all I finally got medical slip and tomorow is my medical test@anushaktinagar...

 My interview lasts for 2.30 hrs and i was yhe last person for the day..

 

Interview starts with fav sub i wrote

1. machines.

2. power system

3. power electronics

4. basic ckt theory

5. control systemInterview was 2 test ur basics...they want to know howmuch u know they give amplehints tooowhen my int i\was over they told me 2 wt for 5 mins and gave medical slip...

Control Systems: frm dis dey basically will drill u regarding all the responses dat is.....time domain response...frequency response.....pole zero plot...nyquist criteria...etc......in my case dey tried to find in all cases how d stability vil b effectd by varyin chang in various parameters........cicuit theory: this part ws all abt rlc ciruits.....how current varies...voltage varies.....resonance etc......be prepared to xplain theoretically n mathematically aswell.......Electrical machines: dis part consisted 70% INDUCTION MOTORS........dey went indetail abt the torque slip charachteristics.....den a bit of transformers...bt only d basicsingle phase xmer....bt questions ranged from eddy currents to core material......... power systems: questions wer abt conductors...string efficiency...fault calculations..etc....dey mixed machines n power sytems wen dey askd abt single phasing of IM.....so wen u prepare machines go for everythin related to it...lyk protection of IM....speed controletc....

 

 regardin control system....dey mostly try to work around concepts of stabiltiy........n itmay b using root locus...bode plot....nyquist plot etc..........jus try to be very clear abt all d parameters lyk phase margin n all........in circuits.....b really thorough abt RLC circuits.....all combinations...rl rc...evn pure L pure C.........n d network theorems n al.... best of luck 4 ur interview..........Finally i did get the medical slip.....overall d experience ws gr8....the panel ws gr88...if u bcom nervous...dey try to make ucomfortable.........dey giv enuf hints....one thing dey told me ws....dey wernt lukin for direct answers...dey wntd to discuss dquestions wid me....try 2 get d answers.......i ws nt able to answer lott of questions initially...bt aftr bit of hints i ws able 2.....one non technical advice i wld lyk to giv is.....b prepared to wait d whole day...mine cameafter 11 hrs i came to the building......bt if its gettin too late dey give u tea snacks nall....dey gave me.........all d best for d guys yet to have der interview..........hope 2 hear frm u all................
